Rio Sul
I like shopping in Rio Sul, o Shopping Carioca. It is a medium size shopping where you can find a great variety of shops with the best selection of fashion and casual clothes, shoes, complements, jewelry, electronics.. You can take a rest and recover energies in any of its restaurants, bars, coffee shops.. you can even watch a film in a good cinema.
This shopping mall is located in the neighborhood of Botafogo just in the border with Copacabana and Leme. They have a taxi point just in the entrance.

Barra Shopping
The biggest shopping mall in Rio de Janeiro is the gourgeous Barra Shopping. You can find absolutly everything in that shopping. The best fashion shops, international brands, loads of complements, jewelry... They also have a gougeous medical center! You can have a nice experience walking on its streets and expend the whole day and taste the different restaurants, bars, or watch a film in its wonderful cinema.
The shopping mall is located in Barra da Tijuca neighborhood. Yes it is not close to Ipanema or Copacabana, but it can be reached easily by taxi and shopping lovers won't find this distance too long.

Feira Hippie de Ipanema
Rio de Janeiro offer a wide range of souvenirs, most of them with doubtful good taste. You can find a quality souvenir on the Feira Hippie de Ipanema. You can visit this traditional street market from 7:00am to 7:00pm only on Sundays. There are a lot of artisans selling their creations, a lot of them unique pieces. I specially like the paintings that are just in the middle of the street market.
I recommend you to go with enough time to enjoy it; you can find a good souvenir or a special work of art there. There are a lot of bars and restaurants to have a rest and refreshing around the square.

There are several things that are cheaper in Brazil than abroad; one of them is gold and gems. You can find easily a jewelry in Rio de Janeiro but, i don't have any doubt when i have to buy something to give a good present; i always go to Regency Jewelry. They have a selected collection of pieces in the shop, but if you want, they can produce your own design.
